Nagi Umino (海野 凪, Umino Nagi?) is the main male protagonist of A Couple of Cuckoos Manga Series. He is a second-year student at Megurogawa Academy, who is ranked second in his grade. He is the biological son of a hotel tycoon, but due to a mix-up after his birth is raised by a different family.

Nagi is an average-looking high schooler with black hair and blue eyes.
Personality[]
Nagi seems to be obsessed with studying to the point that he studies day and night in order to achieve top marks. He is quite capable in pretty much everything, whether it is housework or schoolwork, proving his culinary skills multiple times by preparing delicious dishes everyday. He is a free-willed and determined person with a stubborn attitude to never give up. He is also naïve when it comes to the girls around him. Yet his kindhearted nature means that he will protect the ones that he cares about by doing everything in his power to help them.

Relationships[]
Erika Amano[]
The two of them first met as Erika was about to jump off a bridge. The moment that Nagi saw this, he immediately tried to rescue her, only to find out that she was faking the whole ordeal in order to get some attention from her parents and her Instagram followers. Once the misunderstanding was cleared up, Erika told Nagi that her parents were going to put her through an arranged marriage. This prompted Erika to ask of Nagi to become her pretend boyfriend in order to escape that situation. Nagi refused but Erika blackmailed him thus, he obliged. They ended up spending some time together and went shopping, and at the end of the day, he beat up some of Erika's stalkers and they left each other. Little did they know that they had the same parents and that the person that Erika was engaged to was none other than him.
Yet the engagement wasn't the only surprise as both of their parents had also arranged to them living under the same roof, with the end goal of making them closer to one another. Initially, they both oppose this idea and from the start, lay down the ground rules of not interacting with each other in order to mess up their parent's plans. However, this proves to be quite trivial as they quickly become friends.
On the 108th fowl, following the events of the M1 contest, their relationship takes a step forward as Erika kisses Nagi on the lips, resulting in a very embarrassed Nagi.
On the 110th fowl, Nagi learns that Erika loves him.
On the 111th fowl, Nagi tells Erika that he loves her too.
On the 112th fowl, Nagi and Erika will talk to Souichirou Amano so that Erika doesn't move, at that moment Nagi confesses that he fell in love with her during the time they lived together to which the father gives them an option of how it will be from now on to which they both accept to be able to continue together.
However, on the 122nd fowl, after reaching the first place at the school ranking, Nagi started dating Hiro, and on 124th fowl, Erika gets upset with that, and then starts to avoid both of them.
Sachi Umino[]
Nagi cares for Sachi very much and treats her as a normal sibling. After he leaves and stays with Erika, Sachi was scared that he will leave, and decided to move with Nagi and Erika.
Hiro Segawa[]
Nagi has a crush on Hiro and aims to confess to her once he beats her in the school rankings.
On the 122nd Fowl, Nagi beats Hiro in the midterms exams solidifying his place as Hiro's Boyfriend.
On the 158th Fowl, Hiro decided to broke up with Nagi. She broke up because she knew it wouldn't work it with her and Nagi if they married. She also fell in love with her fiance.
Ai Mochizuki[]
Ai is Nagi's childhood friend. they first met on the day that Ai was singing a small tune to herself and he complimented her singing. Throughout their childhood, they used to hang out almost eveyyday, causing their relationship with each other to grow. However, those carefree days were shattered one day as it was revealed that Ai was moving away from Nagi's hometown. As they were leaving, he confessed his love for her, and she responded by telling him that she will give him an answer when she returns. Ever since that day, Ai has loved him. The song that she wrote was for Nagi. Her room decorates with pictures of him.
Namie Umino[]
She is Nagi's adoptive mom and Erika's real father.
Yohei Umino[]
He is Nagi's adoptive dad and Erika's real father.
Souichirou Amano[]
He is Nagi's real dad and Erika's adoptive father.
Ritsuko Amano[]
She is Nagi's real mom and Erika's adoptive mom. She is in the entertainment industry.
Shion Asuma[]
Is in love with many girls but mostly Erika. He worships Nagi because four girls like him and he confessed a couple of times to Hiro.
Sousuke Amano[]
Souichirou is Nagi's real brother who Nagi is searching for currently.
Etymology[]
- The name Nagi pretty much means "calm, lull" (凪), which can be seen from his usual interactions unless agitated, compared to Erika Amano who is always outgoing.
- Erika mentioned that his name may have been 颯太 (Souta) if he had not been switched from birth.
